Understanding In Marriage
By Julius
It is lack of understanding that makes a man turn against his wife and the wife against her husband. I heard of the story of a woman whose husband battered her for years. At a certain time, she knelt down and asked her husband what he really wanted her to do. The husband told her that he enjoys having threesomes. The wife invited one of her bosom friends to join her in her husband’s unusual request with a promise to pay her for her troubles. As bizarre as this story may sound, it ended the strife in her marriage.
Understanding is the key to a long-lasting marriage. If you don’t understand your wife or your wife does not understand you, both of you will be at each other’s throats all the time and worse still, the marriage may end in divorce.
What is understanding and why is it important in marriage?
Love is and should be the foundation of every marriage. But more importantly, understanding is the pillar that will strengthen that marriage. The lack of it is why many men become enemies of their wives or women become the arch enemy of their husbands. In this article, I will examine six important roles understanding plays in marriage.
What is Understanding?
The Cambridge dictionary defines understanding as the knowledge about a subject, situation etc., or about how something works.
If you don’t take time to understand your wife, you may find yourself in constant rifts with her. Most often, the period of courtship is supposed to give you a snippet of the kind of woman you are getting married to. Although, marriage itself is the eyeopener where all the blindfolds that love plastered on your face are forcefully taken away. It is in marriage that the strengths and weaknesses of your wife will come at you with full force. Knowing what she loves and detests will help you relate with her purposefully. So, here are five reasons you need understanding in your marriage.
- Understanding will prevent unnecessary arguments
No woman likes to exert energy in the kitchen to cook a meal and then the man of the house stumbles in and goes straight to the bed without even taking a look at what the wife prepared. If your wife falls into this bracket, it is in your best interest to make sure her meal is your last resort after work to avoid unnecessary arguments that will give rise to spurious suspicion.
2. Understanding strengthens love
If your wife understands you and you understand her, there will be little or no room for arguments. When this is the case, it will strengthen the love in your marriage.
3. Understanding enhances communication
When understanding exists between you and your wife, communication becomes easy. You both will be able to make adjustments when you notice that your actions or inactions are causing each other pain.
4. There will be unity of purpose
Progress is the offspring of understanding. So, wherever it is allowed, there is bound to be unity of purpose and achievements will follow each other in rapid succession. It will make you best of friends. If you understand your wife and she understand you too, both of you will definitely become best of friends. You will intentionally and deliberately avoid those things that will put her on edge.
Conclusion
Marriage will be blissful to the degree of understanding your wife and vice versa. It therefore means that where this is non-existent, chaos and all forms of marital crisis will find expression in such a marriage. As a man who is desirous of a blissful marriage, you must strive to make understanding a constant companion in your marriage.
