It has more than 17,000 outlets all over the world, employs more than 450,000 people and generates more than 9 billion dollars in sales annually!However, this success story could not have been if not for the dogged determination of a broke 65-year-old man called Harland Sander.

Be determined – it’s the only way

Growing up, “Colonel Sanders”, as this man was popularly known, sharpened his cooking skills. He had a service station where he was always cooking for travelers. However, at about age 60, he was forced to shut down his business and go into retirement because a new highway was being built where his restaurant was located.When he received his first retirement cheque, it was $105. Just imagine the embarrassment $105 would bring to a family man in a month! He was shocked and told himself, “I can’t put up with this.” By age 64, he was broke; he owned a small house and a beat-up car. He resolved to make a change, and so he began travelling around the United States selling his special fried chicken idea.He got rejection upon rejection, but he refused to give up. He was turned down and humiliated, but he was not knocked out. KFC is the giant that it is today because of the dogged determination of Harland Sander. Indeed a knockdown is not a knock-out! And there is no true success without the power of determination.
