Simple Steps to Help You Accept Your Calling

By Publisher

We are all called, but you need understanding to accept your calling. You need to understand what you have been called to do and accept it as your life purpose. Accepting your calling helps you define your personality, your gift and your leadership style.Every leader is called to lead a change, but no one can lead a change without accepting his calling. Some are overwhelmed by the demand of status, while others feel accepting the call will make them lesser. Some feel this way because a call to leadership is a call to service. These set of people rather stay away from service, denying themselves of what they are called to do.In the eleventh century, King Henry III of Bavaria grew tired of court life and the pressures of being a monarch. He made an application to Prior Richard at a local monastery, asking to be accepted into the monastery. “Your Majesty,” said Prior Richard, “Do you understand that the pledge here is one of obedience? That will be hard because you have been a king.”“I understand,” said Henry. The rest of my life I will be obedient to you as Christ leads you.”“Then I will tell you what to do,” said Prior Richard. “Go back to your throne and serve faithfully in the place where God has put you.” When King Henry died a statement was written: “The King learned to rule by being obedient.”There are learning points from the life of King Henry III of Bavia that can help you accept your calling without doubt. Here are some of the learning points:

1. Follow your passion

Your passion is a pointer to what you have been called to do. As a leader, you will excel more in the place of your passion than in any other area. This is because in the place of your passion you become you and not someone else. When you do what you enjoy doing, work becomes a pleasure. When work becomes a pleasure, more time and diligence are accorded to it. That is just what you need to command the result. King Henry was passionate about serving others; yet he never saw that he could serve as a king. It took his discussion with Prior Richard to open his eyes to leadership through service. He began serving in his kingdom until his death.

2. Find a place to serve

Talents and gifts are given for service. The law of nature commands that whatsoever talent you leave redundant will die a natural death.  As you serve with your gifts and talents, your calling becomes clearer.

3. Get the right counsel

“In the multitude of counsel, there is safety.” – The Bible. Counsel could make or mar you. A wrong company will definitely talk you out of your calling. Imagine a company that is so concerned about status and reputation and you suddenly go to them for counsel about you serving in a position that is below your status. Even if that’s your passion, they will talk you out of it. But men of understanding with a deep consciousness of what “calling” is will counsel otherwise. It was the counsel that King Henry got from Prior Richards that changed his leadership.

4. Face it with discipline and diligence

Whatsoever your hands find to do, do it with all diligence. There is no need doing anything without putting your heart to it. Leadership is about service and service is about affecting your surroundings positively. This takes diligence and discipline because there will be times when you don’t feel like serving, but you have to stay the course.Once you follow these tips, your present challenges or status cannot blind you to the weightier glory that will be revealed in the place of your calling. Accept your calling today, and leave footprints in the sands of time.
