The Secret of Value Creation in Leadership
By Publisher
Value births success and significance
John Maxwell wrote, “Success is when I add value to myself, significance is when I add value to others.” He also believes that “Adding value to team members and helping them to win is what leadership is all about.” Albert Einstein nailed it when he said, “Try not to become a man of success, but rather to become a man of value.Leaders who understand value as propitious to success and significance take into consideration the needs of the team members and followers. Leadership is about giving, and most importantly giving to the needs of others. It is not about your needs only, but also the needs of the team. What keeps the team together are the values crafted out of the needs of all members of the team. It is the sense of value that makes someone decide to follow you or join your team. S/he knows there is something to benefit from the relationship. Whether in business, organization, family, or what have you, the secret of staying relevant and significant every day and everywhere is embedded in your ability to be valuable and make others valuable.Value fosters teamwork
The reason for tension in a team is mostly because of the unclarity of value and insecurity. An overly bottom-line-driven leadership that focuses on a set of the group will only drive the team head-on into frictions, rivalry and war. However, when value is created by understanding and taking into consideration the needs of every member, the group glides progressively to success. Each member considers himself valuable to the process and takes ownership and responsibility for every step of the way. Strategic partnership is based on a shared set of values.Value creates change
Value leadership creates change in other people. Lasting success lies in changing individuals first and then the organization follows. The society changes only as far as individuals change. In other words, the first step to attaining national development is human development.Meanwhile, this happens only through leadership that places importance on the need to make a difference in others. Leadership is about making others better by your presence and making sure that impact lasts in your absence. It is the duty of leaders to unlock the best in others, which transforms their perception, orientation about themselves, others and their place in the society. You don’t build a business, you build the people and then people build the business.Let’s conclude with the words of Queen Rania of Jordan, “At the end of the day, the position is just a position, a title is just a title, and those things come and go. It’s really your essence and your values that are important.”Discover more from Masculine Digest
