Simple Steps to Overcome the Adversary

Two years ago, I went to Church with a friend to pray on some personal issues, we were there for a few days. I saw serious minded believers that also came to seek God’s face.However, I was shocked to see two men who are supposed to be believers quarreling with each other and cursing themselves. I saw that as a lack of understanding because the devil is our adversary, not humans.The scriptures cannot be broken. It has been proven for ages, that the Bible is the truth. We must therefore not walk in ignorance.The Bible makes it clear that we are not dealing with flesh and blood; the things of the spirit are different from those of the physical.This is the reason you cannot communicate with God in the physical realm – you need your spirit man to be alive to the Spirit of God. This is the reason for being born-again.The devil is not a physical being that you can feel and touch. Don’t let him manipulate you to believe that human beings are your adversaries.Note, the word “wrestle” in the scripture means we are in a warfare with the devil and his government. The devil’s hierarchy of government includes: principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spiritual wickedness in high places.Another misconception people have is praying for the destruction of the adversary the devil. That is wrong; you can only pray to destroy his work or influence over your life. He is a spirit that can posses human beings or use them as agents.

Identify your enemy

You cannot be shadowboxing, there is a need to identify the areas of your life where you are experiencing challenges.David knew that it was not Goliath that was challenging him, but the gods of the Philistines, against the God of Israel.. That made him bold to challenge Goliath.People are faced with different issues: it may be a sin, finance, sickness, ,marriage, lack of progress, demonic oppression etc. Identify your own challenge.

Knowledge not ignorance

Knowledge is very powerful and every warfare strategy depends on the knowledge acquired. The ability of a man’s strength is in the knowledge he has receivedTherefore the more you know, the more darkness cannot stand against you.

Renew your Mind

Your mind is the place of your thought. It is where the mother of all spiritual warfare is fought. This is the reason you need to guide your heart diligently through the process of renewal by the Word of God.Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

The devil will try to infiltrate your thought with evil suggestions and negative reports; you must do everything to resist devil the adversary, by saying “no” to his advances.Don’t allow wrong counsel from your friends or colleagues to overwhelm your thought. Rely on the truth of the Word of God to triumph in your mind. That is your key to victory.
