Overcoming Obstacles on your Path to Greatness

Find Pleasure in your destination
When it is time to gallop back home, a horse cares less about the fatigue, or the possible hurdle it may have to scale. Its eyes are on the refreshment and rest it will get in the stable. The first thing that encourages you to press on is the exhilarating experience you hope to get at your destination. It’s the pleasure. It’s the excitement of doing what gives you peace.Life becomes frustrating when one embarks on a journey one has no pleasure in. You will never find the strength to fight on in your marriage, on your job, or whatever goal you have if you don’t see the pleasure you get by succeeding. Optimism is power; it energizes and quickens the soul to push on and overcome challenges. However, what fuels optimism is the merit, the crown, the profit, the light at the end of the tunnel.Tom Butler Bowdon wrote, “Optimistic people tend to believe not simply because they believe that everything will turn out right, but because the expectation of success makes them work harder.”It’s the expectation. It’s hope.Fight and never lose your joy
Where there is joy, there is the earnestness to fight. The fight, however, is to keep the joy, unrelenting to let it go. When we talk about endurance, or enduring the cross, it is the ability to keep the joy regardless of the pain.Obstacles are on the path to kill the spirit, steal the joy and quench the passion to strive for mastery. Hence, take your eyes off the obstacles and set them on your peace, joy and assurance that the end is beautiful. Guard your passion and optimism with all diligence.Get hold of your mind
Indeed, the battle is tense, but fight a little more. It’s indisputable that the mountain is mighty, but push on. Interestingly, the fight most times is not physical. It’s in your mind. What do you allow into your mind? What fills your thoughts? The more you think about the obstacles, the bigger they become and the weaker you become. But the more you meditate on the joy that awaits you at the peak of the mountain, the stronger you become. And what you feed your mind with fills your lips. So, watch it. As you focus your mind on the destination, the journey naturally becomes clearer. You get the leeway out of the mess that may have shut you in. Take hold of your mind. Do the best by filling your mind and meditating on things that are true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious – the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.Resist all shame and condemnation
Yes, you are not there yet, but you are not where you were some minutes back. Resist any form of shame and condemnation. The scar of the wound you got while crawling up the mountain may be a thing of shame. But it is those scars that certify your narrative. Never be ashamed to share them.Self-awareness helps you to debunk any form of shame or condemnation. You are not afraid to take the necessary risks required. It doesn’t matter whether your last attempt was a failure. Re-strategize and don’t be ashamed or overcome to shoot again. Great things never come from comfort zones. Take risks in your life. If you win, you can lead; if you lose, you can guide. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Be action-oriented.Let’s conclude with Jack Canfield’s words: “Successful people maintain a positive focus in life no matter what is going on around them. They stay focused on their past successes rather than their past failures, and on the next action steps they need to take to get them closer to the fulfilment of their goals rather than all the other distractions that life presents to them.” Never Give up. Run the race. Fight the battle. Keep your faith. Get the prize.Discover more from Masculine Digest
