How Nigeria Truncates the Dreams of Young Men

By Publisher

If you’re wondering why we randomly decided to talk about how Nigeria truncates the dreams of young men in the country, allow us to bring you up to speed. For a significant part of the previous week, various media outlets were filled with stories about the death of a bright and promising young man – David Ntekim-Rex.According to numerous reports, he was murdered during a robbery in Lagos state. He was taken to the hospital. But, unfortunately, he died regardless. Some reports state that the police watched him as he bled to death. But, the Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, insisted that this wasn’t exactly true. According to the Public Relations Officer, “He was accepted at LUTH and confirmed dead. The family returned to the police to get extracts at the station for a mortuary. So, the allegation of the police abandoning him is not true.”At this point, it is a little hard figuring out who to believe. However, regardless of what the case was, one fact still stands – David is dead, and nothing can bring him back.In more ways than one, this is incredibly painful. If not for anything else, at least for the fact that the country could have done better. The country could’ve done better to protect the lives and properties of its citizens such that they can walk freely without the fear of having their lives taken away from them.By all means, David was a promising young fellow. Despite being a recent graduate of the University of Lagos, he had begun paving the way for himself. For starters, he was a very talented designer. His portfolio is available for all to see online. He has worked on different projects that gained thousands of views. A substantial number of those views and recognitions were from individuals outside the country who recognize talent.Besides that, in 2018, David had emerged second in the “Master the Mainframe” competition organized annually by AngelHack, a global hackathon company, and the IBM Z Academic Initiative. In that competition, he had beaten 17,000 other contestants, including those from Brazil, Nepal, Germany, and the United States of America, among others. Without doubt, David was a genius, and he was on his way to conquering the world. Unfortunately, just like she failed hundreds of thousands of her citizens, Nigeria failed David.Nigeria failed David by lacking a working security system required to ensure his safety in the first place.Nigeria failed David by being unable to bring the perpetrators to justice after the event. Nigeria failed David by being unable to save him after the entire incident. In all these ways, Nigeria truncates the dreams of young men across the country. At this point, you can only hope that one day, the country will begin to protect its citizens again. One day, you can walk around freely and feel safe knowing that your hard work will count for something. One day, you can live long enough to declare your pride in your country because, as it stands, it seems as though Nigeria only truncates dreams, and there isn’t much the ordinary man can do about it.
